FORUM8 releases Shade3D Ver.24 with metaverse features and improved road design and programming tools

On July 31st, 2023, FORUM8 Co., Ltd. (2-15-1 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo. President Yuji Ito. URL: has released Shade3D Ver.24, the newest program of the integrated 3D CG software.

Shade3D was released in 1986 as a Japanese 3D CG software. Its various CG modelling functions and intuitive operation are familiar to many users, and Shade3D is used for a wide variety of purposes such as architectural perspective, interior design, product design, film production, etc. In 2020, it was selected as the top product in the "Company share of Japan-made 3D CG software" in the "Investigation on market of industrial CG-VR creation software in Japan" (by Fuji Chimera Research Institute, Inc., published on Aug. 31st).

The latest release of Ver.24 includes the improved metaverse features. A variety of modelling tools have been added, such as the Humanoid Bone for avatar creation and the Box Model Converter for effective creation of light models, and rendering speed and quality have been greatly improved.

In addition, BIM/CIM compatible functions such as road alignment LandXML input/output have been enhanced, and can be more conveniently used for digital twin environment construction by linking with 3D VR software UC-win/Road.

[Shade3D Ver.24 new functions]

Metaverse functions:
Humanoid bone

A set of standard human bone structures can be created at once, making it easier to share poses and motions between multiple characters. It conforms to Metaverse avatar standards.

Box model converter

It converts near-landscape high polygon models into billboard and box models for far-landscape to quickly create light models for the metaverse.

Polygon reduction

Added the function to turn on/off "Triangulate" and "Use UV Boundary" in polygon reduction, and improved the execution after setting the UV map and maintaining normal after execution.

Improved PBR material

Two parameters have been added: "Sheen" to express the surface coating, and "Clearcoat" to express the texture of the fabric.

KTX image input/output

The input and output of image files in KTX(Khronos TeXture), a GPU compressed texture format is now supported. It can reduce the memory size on the GPU and improve performance.

Improved glTF input/output

The types of data that can be exchanged with the glTF input/output have been increased, extending the range of expressiveness in the metaverse. It uses the settings of "Transparency", "IOR", "Specular", "Emissive", "Sheen", "Clear coat" in the PBR material, and "Smooth" and "Tiling" in the texture mapping.

BIM/CIM features:
Input/Output road alignment to LandXML

Corresponds to LandXML input/output of road alignment. Road alignment information and terrain data (polygon mesh) can be imported from UC-win/Road through LandXML, and horizontal alignment information of road alignment can be exported from Shade3D to LandXML.

BIM/CIM Design Check Tool supporting 2023 standards (separately sold option)

Supports the MLIT's BIM/CIM standards guideline (March 2023).
