-Joint research and development to create autonomous operated ship using cutting-edge technologies including AI-
In the joint research and development to create the autonomous operated ship by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., Japan Radio Co., Ltd., and YDK Technologies Co., Ltd., the 3D real-time simulation software UC-win/Road developed by FORUM8 Co., Ltd. (2-15-1 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo. President Yuji Ito. URL:https://www.forum8.co.jp/english/) has been adopted as digital twin UI for the integrated ship operator assistant system.
This initiative aims to develop a system which assists the operator in making accurate decisions about ship operation and prevents serious maritime accidents such as ship collisions and groundings, leading to the automatic operation of ships in the future. FORUM8 has been selected for this project because of the high evaluation of UC-win/Road's advanced technology which enables us to reproduce ships and marine traffic as real digital twins in VR space and to perform real-time simulations of the ships' surrounding environment and operations, in addition to our extensive track record in civil engineering, transportation and other fields. We will support the advancement of this system and cooperate in the development to improve the safety of ship operations, with the aim of conducting onboard demonstration tests starting in April 2023 and full-scale social implementation thereafter.
As visualization solutions to realize Digital Twin, FORUM8 provides the VR creation tool "UC-win/Road", the CG modeling tool "Shade3D", and the web platform "F8VPS" to correspond to creation of various 3D VR spaces, depending on purposes such as virtual office / campus / event & exhibition / factory etc. We will continue to develop the "F8 Digital Twin Software" to support DX in the future.
