Contest site for The 8th Student BIM&VR Design Contest on Cloud Services "Sharable urban system of future Shanghai"

"The 8th Student BIM & VR Design Contest on Cloud Services Virtual Design World Cup" is held this year. This international competition requires students to design advanced architecture, bridge, city, and landscape by using BIM/CIM and VR. With a theme announced every year, students compete their design, idea progressiveness, and idea sense. In this topic, we show you the overview and characteristics of this year's target site in Shanghai city area and its VR data.

Shanghai city changing and developing rapidly

This year's target area is Lujiazui, Pudong, where is the most developing area in Shanghai. A business zone with lots of skyscrapers along Huangpu River and a typical apartment area for about 3 square km are reproduced in VR. A lot of cars are traveling in the main street, and many people walk on sidewalks and square. There are 3D super-high buildings such as Oriental Pearl Radio&TV Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Shanghai Tower, and Jin Mao Tower. When you look at the residential area, you can see typical complex housings and apartments concentrated in the area. The landscape entirely changes in just one block. These characteristics of Shanghai city in the middle of the rapid change are reproduced in VR.

Sharing services that are often introduced as an advanced activity in China are also reproduced here and there. On sidewalks, sharing bicycles that have become familiar to Chinese people are standing in a line. In addition, you can see a variety of sharing such as electric car sharing service, energy sharing by wind and solar power, and sharing office. By playing scripts, you can see these examples of the sharing economy along the Century Avenue.

 Script expressions

Script/Animation displays data overview and expressions by using UC-win/Road creaton function and linkage function. In this data we set 2 types of animations. A 15-second animation "Shanghai - VDWC theme2018 15s" shows a brief summary of Shanghai city data and examples of the sharing economy that is the theme of this year. By executing "Shanghai - VDWC introduction", you can see simulation settings and a result of data import from design and analysis software as well as data overview.

The data also has 2 types of scenarios. "Driving" is a scenario that man goes to a car-sharing parking lot, gets on a vehicle, and drives freely in the area. A scenario "Cycling" has a fixed route for cycling on sidewalk from a sharing cycle parkiing.

In addition to 3D models created by a modeling software, 3D shape data and analysis result exported from various analysis software and design software are imported, for example, a share office designed in Allplan, a pedestrian bridge designed in Engineer's Studio®, and crowd evacuation data analyzed in EXODUS. Each expression can be displayed by switching the camera position, and some of those data can be seen in the scripts above.

Share offices models are located in a great place for the assessment plugin to be used. Reflection light settings are already configured to solar panels on the roofs so that users can choose date and see the analysis result instantly. The sunshine calculation allows users to check influences brought by surrounding high buildings. In addition, the green view rate against scenery seen from an office can be computed.
